Dear Conn Families,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year and 3rd Grade! We are very excited to have you and your child join us this year. 3rd grade is an exciting year with many wonderful learning opportunities.
The 3rd grade team has a uniform homework policy that aligns with WCPSS policy. The purpose of assigned homework in 3rd grade is to see how well students independently demonstrate skills taught. It is intended to reinforce concepts taught each day, as well as to provide opportunities for students to enhance their time management skills. We use student work performance to help drive our instruction and provide extra support for students when needed.
Some Things to Know…
They are expected to copy down the homework daily in each subject block.
Homework is assigned each day based on the standards covered during class, except for projects.
All projects will have due dates and rubrics for grading. There may be an in-class assignment that correlates with student projects.
Students are highly encouraged to bring home the appropriate materials they will need to complete their nightly assignments. All materials need to be returned to school daily.
Students are expected to spend 20 minutes each night reading and responding to the text read and an additional 30 minutes for all other subjects. Please be prepared for your third grader to spend approximately 50 minutes every night on homework.
Graded homework assignments will be marked with a check or a “P” to denote practice.
Grades for report cards will come from teacher observations, classwork, formal and informal assessments ONLY.
If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teaching team.
Sincerely,
The 3rd Grade Team
